Unafraid and responsive to the boat captain's call, swamp creatures peak out from underbrush and between moss-draped trees and shrubs, frequently coming directly to the boat. In the safety and comfort of the boat, you can actually come within a few feet of jumping alligators.

A Greek Revival-style home dating back to 1837, Oak Alley is famous for its’ alley of 28 evenly spaced Live Oak trees that go from River Road to the Plantation mansion. These Live Oaks are believed to be at least 100 years older than the plantation mansion, often referred to as "Big House" by virtue of its size and position.

Explore the grounds and exhibits that reflect the evolution of this National Historic site. Enjoy a professionally guided tour of the plantation mansion conducted by guides in period costumes.

The plantation tour involves some walking, but not a great distance, while the swamp tour is entirely by boat. You'll only walk a short distance from your vehicle to the boat.

What if it rains?

The plantation and swamp tours are offered come rain or shine unless canceled due to extreme weather conditions. The boats used in the swamp tour are covered for protection from rain, and the plantation tours are mostly indoors, but please bring your umbrella for the walk from your vehicle to the plantation and the swamp.

Is the tour wheelchair-accessible?

The plantation grounds are wheelchair-accessible, but please note that there are stairs to get to the second floor of the Big House exhibit.
